A classic spot you shouldn’t miss during a stay in Puerto Peñasco is that of the curios shops and galleries on the old road to Cholla Bay, also affectionally called “Cholla Mall”, “Rodeo Drive,” or “Shacks.” Once there, you will come across various types of folkart and souvenirs to take home, from pieces of shell-art made by local artisans to ironwood figures, Mexican ceramics, silver jewelry, t-shirts, sunglasses, sombreros, the traditional jorongo (Mexican blankets and serapes), bags, and iron work, among other treasures. Tucked between the galleries and curios shops, you will also come across a candy store offering a variety of typical Mexican sweets. A traditional Mexican restaurant will delight your taste buds with their cuisine and tequila tastings. The area is also known for its colorful decorations and fiesta each November in honor of Day of the Dead, and home to contests for altars as well as the traditional Catrina, along with a procession of contestants in elegant costumes.
