Come to Rocky Point

Puerto Peñasco continues to distinguish itself with important gastronomic events

Gastro 638, a collective consisting of local chefs, continues to surprise tourists and locals alike with pairing dinners and gastronomic festivals in the port.

Their second large culinary event of the year, “Gastro Fest 638”, will be held October 5th at Playa Balche at Mayan Palace. The event, geared at both visitors and Puerto Peñasco residents alike, comes less than five months after the collective’s first “Brasa Fest”.  The October 5th event will begin at 4 p.m, and includes participation of 638 chefs, local restaurants, as well as service providers.

Some of the restaurants that will be present and ready to serve guests include: Restaurant Miguel´s from Hotel Peñasco del Sol, Moonshadow Café, Infusión del Golfo from Laguna Shores, La postrería, Restaurant El Oktopus, Restaurante de Ramón, Alaburger con el Chef, Flash publicidad, and Mayan Palace, among others that have been joining the organization.

There’s nothing better than enjoying the beach along with great food and music to set the mood. Come have fun and support a good cause as some of the proceeds from the event will benefit the special needs school “CAM La Montaña”.

On a related note, on September 6th, Restaurant Miguel´s from Hotel Peñasco del Sol joined the popular Puerto Peñasco pairing dinners with an evening organized by chef Javier Garcia Cerrillo. At the dinner, named “1928 Club de Cenas”, nearly 50 guests were treated to 10 course samplings put together by 5 local chefs.

The successful chefs in charge of pleasing guests’ taste buds were Luca Appendino from Pane e Vino, Ohan Chitgian from Moonshadow Café, Yalvani Rojas from Miguel´s in Hotel Peñasco del Sol, Alberto Millán from Infusión del Golfo dat Laguna Shores and the host of the event, Executive Chef Javier García Cerrillo.

At the pairing dinner, guests were able to experience dishes that are not very common in our city, including Sea Urchin, Cornish Hen, Rabbit, and Berkshire Pig.

Everyone involved would like to extend an invitation to the next edition of “1928 Club de Cenas”, which will be held on October 18, at 8 P.M, at Miguel’s Restaurant in Hotel Peñasco del Sol.

Another chef that continues to surprise is Chef Tony Acuña who, along with his kitchen staff from Infusion del Golfo at Laguna Shores, has guided his guests through new pairing dinner experiences with tequila expert Engelbert Rios.

Their next pairing dinner is in November and we are very anxious to see what surprises they have for us this time.

Here are a few tips and pointers for you to enjoy Puerto Peñasco’s pairing dinners to their fullest:

  • Be sure to arrive early, you don’t want to miss out on the first course
  • Wait to do the tasting along with the whole group so you can fully enjoy the qualities of the wine
  • Don’t swirl bubbly wines, as that can free carbon gas that produces bubbles and gives the wine its effervescence
  • Take notes so you can remember properties of the wine you most enjoy
  • Avoid distilled drinks prior to the pairing-dinner as this may modify your appreciation of the wine
  • Enjoy each dish to the fullest; no need to rush before moving on to the next dish
  • If you believe you’ve had enough, do not feel you must finish all the wine in your glass so you may continue appreciating those that follow
