The POTENTUR platform, made up of travel agencies from across the country, has recognized Puerto Peñasco and Hermosillo as emerging destinations in Mexico.
Representatives of the Convention and Visitors Bureaus of Puerto Peñasco, Hermosillo, and Guaymas-San Carlos, as well as from the Peñasco del Sol Hotel, gathered in Mexico City to receive the honored distinction. There, they met with leaders of the tourism platform, which is made up of travel agencies and tour-operators and considered to be one of the most important forums for the central and southern parts of the country. POTENTUR is a means to position tourism destinations both nationally and internationally.
This recognition was achieved once POTENTUR agents had the opportunity to travel to familiarize themselves with Puerto Peñasco by taking advantage of the launch of the Calafia Airlines direct flight from Tijuana in May 2022. This brought in more than 40 travel agencies from around the country to the area.
During this ¨Fam Trip¨, and in conjunction with the Peñasco del Sol hotel, the distinguished guests learned more about the benefits of this Port, its hotel offerings, emblematic sites, and cuisine. This led to an invitation to the POTENTUR EXPO in Mexico City held in August 2022, which serves hundreds of agencies seeking information on new destinations and tourism proposals.
This is why the most important destinations in Sonora are now on the radar of hundreds of travel agencies that form part of the POTENTUR group as it continues to promote emerging destinations.
These types of recognition and actions strengthen brand presence at a national level, which is a priority for the State of Sonora, State Secretary of Tourism, municipal tourism coordination, and the Puerto Peñasco Convention & Visitors Bureau. It also strengthens relationships with travel agencies, which are an important part on the agenda to position our destination within new markets.
