Even though official events of the Rocky Point Rally™ have been postponed to next year as a way to prevent large concentrations of people in the era of Covid-19, bikers and visitors are welcome to enjoy Puerto Peñasco’s roadways, live music, and beaches this Fall.
Positioned as one of the area’s traditional events, the annual Rocky Point Rally tends to attract bikers from the US and Mexico alike, as well as from other countries, with some traveling thousands of miles just to gather on the Sea of Cortez in Rocky Point. Celebrations surrounding the highly anticipated 20th Anniversary fiesta have been postponed until 2021 to prevent the spread of Covid-19, and in addressing health and safety protocols.
Oscar Palacio Soto, founder and principal organizer of the event, stated that even though the official celebration has been moved, Rocky Point still welcomes bikers and others wishing to ride down and enjoy the city. What will be different is there will not be any concerts set up along the popular Calle 13 or malecon, nor the bike show or contests in the Old Port.
“There won’t be a Rally as such, but people are still welcome. We’re looking to make sure they follow rules such as use of facemasks and social distancing, so things don’t get out of control and to reduce risks,” indicated Palacio Soto.
The Rocky Point Rally organizer explained various bars will still be having bands performing up until midnight so that visitors can enjoy live music. In addition, he is looking at a way to still hold a special bike procession to promote next year’s anniversary celebration.
“The idea is to prevent large concentrations of people, with other activities that can disperse bikers and people,” he noted.
