More than 7 thousand people gathered for the 37th edition of the Regional Congress of Alcoholics Anonymous that took place in Puerto Peñasco from November 1 to 3.
This convention was able to exceed expectations with 7,200 attendees from the delegations of Sonora, Sinaloa, Baja California, Baja California Sur, and the state of Chihuahua. The main purpose of this conference was to inform the community about the support offered by Alcoholics Anonymous to people who require it and how the program actually works.
The conference was held at the Puerto Peñasco Convention Center, where speakers who specialize in topics related to the group in this so-called “Spiritual Party”, as they call it.
The AA Coordinator of Public Information for Northern Sonora, Ruben X, indicated that this city was chosen because its hotel infrastructure met the needs of the expected influx and so that attendees could enjoy its beautiful beaches and attractions.
It was announced that Mexico is the second country with the highest number of AA groups, exceeding 14,700 organizations throughout the republic. Meaning that alcoholism currently affects the same number of women as men in Mexico.
The conference inauguration was attended by Natalia Rivera on behalf of state governor Claudia Pavlovich, mayor Ernesto Munro, representatives, and national and regional AA delegates.
