Tourists to the area, primarily from Arizona and California, represented an overall 87% hotel occupancy rate for the city. Beaches, along with city streets and family-fun sites, were packed, providing an economic influx of nearly 38 million pesos.
Visitors from across the southwestern U.S. started arriving for the holiday weekend on Friday, May 27th. They enjoyed three days of fun and relaxation before returning home on Sunday, May 30th, as well as Monday, May 31st in taking advantage of the extended border hours at the Lukeville, AZ – Sonoyta, Sonora crossing.
U.S. Memorial Day Weekend is one of the busiest tourist periods for Puerto Peñasco, following Semana Santa, Spring Break, and the Rocky Point Rally.
