THINGS TO DO IN ROCKY POINT

Since its beginning as a fishing village in the 1930s, Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point) has long been a favorite beach destination for our neighbors to the North given its proximity (about 4 hours) from either Phoenix or Tucson. The coastal waters of the Sea of Cortez invite you to dive into its depths, join an ecotour and visit the wondrous estuaries or desert landscapes, race across the dunes on an ATV, or join a fishing tour to recall part of the city’s history.

1.   Play 18 holes of golf at one of 3 fabulous courses, all with ocean views.

2. Browse the shops of “Rodeo Drive” (Cholla Mall) for pottery, jewelry and souvenirs.

3.   Go up in an ultralight, rent an ATV or Rhino and ride the dunes near Sandy Beach.

4.   Pedal or paddle a kayak around the estuary and stop at the farms for fresh oysters.

5.   Watch breathtaking sunsets and the best view of the city from on top of the hill at Casa Del Capitan or the Lighthouse.

6.   Buy fresh flounder or jumbo shrimp at the fish markets on the Malecon.

7.   Give the banana boat driver a thumbs-up as he bounces you along the waves.

8.   Pack a cooler, sunscreen and a good book and spend the day just relaxing at the beach.

9.   Visit El Pinacate Volcanic Region Reserve and the Schuk Toak Visitors Center.
Discover the Reserve of the Biosphere of The Pinacate and Great Altar Desert, incredible sand dunes, impresive MAAR craters like the “Elegante” or “Cono Rojo” which are a unique experience surrounded by the Altar desert.

10.  Take the kids to CET MAR aquarium to feed a sea lion, or to CEDO and learn about the many creatures of the Sea of Cortez.

11.  Enjoy the warm waters by way of jet ski, boat, or parasail.

12.  Book a deep sea fishing trip with your sights on landing a big grouper or sea bass.
